Letter to Parents
Dear Parents,
While summer camp has been canceled due to COVID-19, we board members are very excited to offer a variety of virtual, hands-on activities to keep your child busy, learning, and having fun from August 17th -21st, 2020 while practicing safe social distancing. The half-hour sessions will take place from 9 am-12:30pm and 1:00pm-4:00pm.
For example, youths between 9 -12 years old will, meet with our Deaf BIPOC (Black Indigenous, and People of Color) presenters for a session running from 9-9:30am to learn Theater 101.
A summer online camp is a fun way for our campers to learn and explore their own identities with the assistance of Deaf adult role models. Here is our proposed schedule:
August 17-August 21st - Children -
Sessions every 30 minutes from 9:00am- 12:30pm
Teens Sessions every 30 minutes from 1:00pm-4:00pm
Our new board member, Nour Ellakis, Parent Outreach/Family Event Coordinator, will also create a 5-day event schedule to coordinate with you in further detail.
While virtual summer camp will be free, campers will need access to high speed internet for the Zoom sessions. Registration is open through July 31 st , 2020. Zoom is easily downloaded, and login information will follow in an email. Our Director or Assistant Director will host a test session before we start.
We will reach our board member, a Spanish voice-interpreter, to post a video on YouTube that will help explain how to design the schedule for your child. We may be able to invite you to participate in session with Spanish voice-interpreter(s). We will update you next week. While our camp has been interrupted by this terrible pandemic, our campers can still strengthen their self-esteem, self-confidence, explore their Deaf identity, social skills, and leadership skills. Youths and teens demonstrate stronger environmental stewardship as a result of attending camp.
We would love to discuss this with you on videophone. Please call Mayra Castro, Director, videophone: 267-331-4308 or sign up online by July 31st. You can find more information at [email protected] .
We look forward to welcoming your child for a virtual summer camp this August!
Warm regards, Mayra Castro, Director
Andrew Robertson, Assistant Director

Carta a los padres
Estimados padres,
Gratos saludos,
Mayra Castro, directora
Andrew Robertson, director asistente
